Gold Antique Thimbles
Gold thimbles were introduced into 19th Century society to improve upon the quality of the standard silver thimbles that were used by seamstresses and domestic servants. Silver is such a soft metal that the silver thimble would eventually allow for the needle to pass through. The gold thimble which was relatively inexpensive at the time was more durable and prevented the needle from passing through.
